""Eastern DR Congo carries extraordinary weight, and the women, children, youth, and communities we serve demonstrate extraordinary strength. What has been missing is connection to a world that sees them clearly and stands with them fully. This fund builds that bridge."

The Story Behind CSC-Asbl

Byolenganya Olo Bernoulli was born in the remote village of Mwenga Territory in South Kivu Province, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. From a young age, his life was shaped by the harsh realities of war, ethnic conflict, hunger, and severe illness—experiences that would later fuel his unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

At just three years old, Olo was afflicted by ringworm, a condition that left him bald and covered in painful lesions. This visible ailment subjected him to severe discrimination and isolation from his peers and community. Throughout this challenging period, Olo found solace and healing in the care of his grandmother, who provided the love and support he needed to overcome both physical and emotional wounds. Her influence instilled in him a deep sense of resilience and compassion.

By the time he reached 21 in 2016, Olo was determined to ensure that no other child in his community would suffer as he had. This determination led him to found the Community Support Center (CSC-Asbl) in Uvira, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing hope, healing, and empowerment to survivors of conflict, particularly women and children. Later that year, CSC-Asbl was officially registered in South Kivu Province, marking the beginning of a long-term project aimed at supporting those in need across DR Congo.

After graduating as a civil engineer from The Light of Bujumbura University in Burundi in 2021, Olo made the pivotal decision to continue his work with CSC-Asbl. He felt a deep calling to give back to his community, providing the support he had missed during his own childhood. He rallied like-minded individuals to join his cause, and today, CSC-Asbl boasts a dedicated team with members in DR Congo, France, Spain, and the USA.

Olo’s commitment to CSC-Asbl’s mission is also reflected in his pursuit of further education and training. He holds certifications in Child Safeguarding Policy Making, Accountability, Peacebuilding, and psychological trauma support. Additionally, he has completed certifications in Collective Leadership from the Collective Leadership Institute in Germany and Local Fundraising from Change the Game Academy, supported by GNDR.

The work of CSC-Asbl is grounded in three core values: Dignity, Humanity, and Solidarity. These principles guide every aspect of the organization’s efforts to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in Eastern DR Congo. Under Olo’s leadership, CSC-Asbl continues to expand its reach, working tirelessly to bring lasting change and hope to communities in need.

CSC-Asbl is always open to collaborating and partnering with individuals and organizations that share our vision. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to support our mission, we invite you to get involved.

CSC-Asbl is registered with charity number 112/SKV/6937 in South Kivu.
